HEAD DOWN RETRO REVIEW [31 Jan 2010|08:03pm]

With a Soundgarden reunion in the works, this is a good time to take a look at one of their non-single masterpieces. It’s no wonder that they agreed on this comeback only if all the original members would be in it, considering that... (READ MORE)

Anyone got an MP3 file of Chris' cover of Thank You? I'd love to listen to that on my iPod rather than being stuck having to listen to it on YouTube.

Has anyone ever managed to get their hands on a necklace like Chris's? The rectangular one, that is, not the fork.

I feel like I've been searching for one for years. And do we know why this one is so significant? It's all over the place.

Here be some pictures of the rectangle.Collapse )

West Memphis Three: ROCK FOR FREEDOM WEEKEND...MARCH [18 Jan 2008|12:54pm]

missboohiss
Dear West Memphis Three Supporters:

We’ve begun a new fundraising event for the WM3; “Rock for Freedom Weekend”, to take place March 7-9 all over the US and abroad.

Before I go into the event itself, here is the latest letter from Lorri Davis Echols, Damien Echols’ wife, regarding the Defense Fund:

January 2, 2008

Dear Friends & Supporters:

As a new year begins, we are also starting a new round of work to fully – and finally – exonerate the West Memphis Three. Sometimes it’s hard to believe that my husband, Damien Echols, has been on death row for nearly 15 years and that Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin have also spent their entire adult lives in prison for a crime they did not commit.

As you know, in late October we filed a 500-page motion in federal court with strong scientific evidence that all three men are innocent of the murders for which they were wrongfully convicted in 1993. This motion includes DNA testing on dozens of pieces of evidence, analysis from the nation’s leading forensic science experts, other solid scientific evidence and compelling witness affidavits. There was no credible evidence presented when these three men were on trial; they were convicted based on fear, hysteria and innuendo. With our recent court filing, reliable scientific evidence finally came into this case, nearly 14 years after Damien, Jessie and Jason were wrongfully convicted.

We urgently need your help to make sure this evidence is fully considered. With your help, the strong scientific evidence will have its day in court, and Damien, Jessie and Jason can finally see justice.

The harsh reality is that uncovering clear evidence that the West Memphis Three are innocent isn’t enough. A few weeks after we shared this extraordinary evidence with the federal court, we received an order from the judge saying we must resolve claims in state court before the federal courts will look at the evidence. The legal team has spent countless hours developing a strategy and plan to focus the court on this new evidence. Today, our lawyers – some of the nation’s best and most dedicated appellate attorneys – formally asked the state court to separate the new evidence from pending claims and review it quickly.

Simply put, today we told the court that this evidence is too important and too powerful to let sit any longer.

In the weeks and months ahead, our lawyers will be preparing to argue this new evidence in either state or federal court. At the same time, our investigators are pursuing even more new evidence that the West Memphis Three are innocent. I need to be honest with you: It is frustrating to come so far, only to see that we have farther to go. As Damien said recently during an hour-long “Larry King Live” interview, “You know, the legal system, they like to drag things out as long as they possibly can. Like I say, I've been here almost 15 years now.”

I want to write you a letter simply thanking you – from the bottom of our hearts – for your support and generosity that made it possible for us to uncover this new evidence. We are more grateful than you can ever know, yet we also need your help more than ever. We urgently need financial contributions to help pay for the legal work, investigation and organizing efforts that will correct this grave injustice once and for all. Please make a donation to the Defense Fund today.

Please make checks payable to:

Damien Echols Defense Fund
PO Box 1216
Little Rock, AR 72203

You can also donate online, through PayPal. It's easy, free and allows you to use your credit or debit card. We also suggest that International Supporters use this option. Please use LDavis11@hotmail.com as the recipient address and kindly include your name and address in the notes box. The button you can click to include your address does not always work.

Over the last several years – and particularly the last several months – we have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of longtime friends and people just learning about the case. Shortly after we made the new evidence public, a group of supporters in Arkansas began organizing to put political pressure on the Governor, Attorney General and District Attorney. Thousands of people, many of them in Arkansas and Tennessee, came forward to demand that the new evidence be fully considered.

The message is clear: The public wants elected officials to respect the scientific evidence, and most people – even those who once believed that the West Memphis Three were guilty – believe that the case is an intolerable miscarriage of justice. In the months ahead, we will be expanding these organizing and public education efforts, just as we redouble our litigation strategy to exonerate Damien, Jessie and Jason.

Thank you for everything you have already done. Without your help, we would not be on the verge of finally securing justice. And thank you in advance for making a donation that will enable us to finally overturn these convictions and free Damien, Jessie and Jason.

Thanks very much,
Lorri Davis
and the Damien Echols Legal Team

GO HERE TO SEE ROCK FOR FREEDOM ON WM3.ORG

.Lorri Davis Echols and the folks at WM3.org as well as ourselves, at the “Rock for Freedom Weekend” sites, have all shifted into high gear, if you haven’t noticed, to raise funds as quickly as possible. If we cannot replenish the WM3 Defense Fund, and the lawyers are not paid, the WM3’s appeals will stop in their tracks. The lawyers working for Damien, Jason, & Jessie are damn good ones, and with quality comes a price. Not only have the fees for the lawyers, and investigators, risen considerably, new testing will be needed (DNA, and possibly other types), and these tests are astronomically expensive.

YOU DON’T NEED OUR PERMISSION TO DO ANYTHING! YOU DON’T HAVE TO CONTACT US! If you know what you’re doing and don’t need help, knock yourself out! It will benefit you and your show though if you put up your info on the Ezboard AND mail it to supporters@wm3.org so your show will be promoted online!

If everyone would please take the time to view our Myspace Site & our RFFW Website and consider organizing a benefit of your own. The WM3 Defense Fund is in dire need of funds currently.

PLEASE JOIN US IN RAISING FUNDS FOR THE WM3 DEFENSE FUND! IF EVERYONE PARTICIPATES IN SOME WAY , IF WE ALL JOIN TOGETHER AND MAKE THE “ROCK FOR FREEDOM WEEKEND” THE HIGHEST GROSSING WM3 EVENT TO DATE, WE ALL, EVERYONE OF US, WILL HAVE HELPED DAMIEN, JASON & JESSIE TO COME HOME!

AS SUPPORTERS OF THE WEST MEMPHIS 3 WE CANNOT ALLOW THE WM3 DEFENSE FUND TO BE DEPLETED!!! THESE MEN’S LIVES LITERALLY DEPEND ON OUR ABILITY, AS SUPPORTERS, TO RAISE FUNDS TO PAY FOR THE LAWYERS WORKING ON THEIR APPEALS, AND THE TESTS THAT COULD POSSIBLY PROVE THEM INNOCENT BEYOND A DOUBT. I cannot express to all of you with any more sincerity how CRUCIAL fundraising is at this point. PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS IMPORTANT TIME PASS DAMIEN, JASON, & JESSIE BY!

PLEASE JOIN US IN HELPING FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE!

Chris Cornell on Sports Radio 950 in Seattle [05 Jun 2007|08:34pm]

nebula31
Chris Cornell was interviewed on Seattle's Sports Radio 950 KJR AM this afternoon by Mike Gastineau (a.k.a. "the Gas Man").

Mike has interviewed other musicians (Pearl Jam, Sir Mix A Lot, Presidents of the USA etc.) in addition to athletes, but this was still a pleasant surprise.

It was pretty cool. I was surprised at how much Chris talked. It wasn't a long interview, but he did speak quite a bit about the Audioslave Cuba tour.

NEW ALBUM releasing May 1st / Chris Cornell leaves Audioslave

CHRIS CORNELL'S 13TH CAREER ALBUM RELEASING MAY 1ST

ON SURETONE/INTERSCOPE;

CORNELL PERMANENTLY LEAVING AUDIOSLAVE

Fourteen Tracks Join Cornell with Grammy® Winner Lillywhite

Los Angeles (February 15, 2007) – Two-time Grammy winner, singer-songwriter and voice of a generation, Chris Cornell, announced today the release date of his 13th career album, Carry On, in stores May 1st on Suretone/Interscope.  Steered by Grammy Award-winning British super-producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Morrissey, Dave Matthews Band), Carry On is a mature and content departure from the acrimonious artist who brought us Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog.

Additionally Cornell is permanently departing super-group Audioslave stating, "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave.  I wish the other three members nothing but the best in all of their future endeavors."

The new album's fourteen tracks offer the bluesy and soulful "Safe and Sound," psychedelic "Scar On The Sky," country-flavored "Finally Forever"... paeans to persistence in "Disappearing Act" and a slow-grind cover of Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean" that gives the familiar song a completely new feeling.  More personal selections include  "Ghost," "Arms Around Your Love" and "She'll Never Be Your Man" and alt-rock experimentations ("Killing Birds" the anthemic "Silence the Voices").  Fans of Soundgarden and Audioslave will appreciate the harder edge of "No Such Thing" and "Poison Eye" and the redemptive "Your Soul Today."

Carry On will also include the Top 10 European smash hit "You Know My Name," the main title song for the current James Bond theatrical release, Casino Royale, appearing for the first time on a full-length release.  Cornell wrote and recorded the track with long-time James Bond composer David Arnold for the film.

With this collection of songs, it is evident that Cornell was inspired by songwriters from Elvis Costello to Tom Waits. Cornell says that his own lyrical approach leans on stream-of-consciousness, "getting out of my own way" to allow themes to naturally arise, whether topical or biographical.  "The most exciting thing is to let yourself expose your true, vulnerable feelings, which is what resonates with people most," he explains.  As far as his vocal style, he points to such R&B singers as Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin for showing masterfully how emotion can best be conveyed, even in subtle phrasing, also praising Bob Marley's expressive range and Tom Waits' use of his voice as an instrument.

Ranked 12th in MTV's "22 Greatest Voices in Music" survey, ahead of such icons as David Bowie, Steven Tyler and Bruce Springsteen, Cornell has been called "the single most dynamic rock and roll force produced by the Grunge Revolution of the early '90s."  As the frontman for Soundgarden, he marshaled five studio albums including the groundbreaking SUPERUNKNOWN, which sold more than three million copies and earned two Grammy Awards.  His songwriting continued to develop with the mid-Soundgarden side-project, critically acclaimed, eponymously-titled release Temple of the Dog, a collective of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden members who formed in tribute to late Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood.  More recently his tenure as frontman for the rock super-group Audioslave, continued his multi-platinum success and produced the hit singles "Like a Stone" and "Cochise" in the millennium.  In addition to his work in the music world, Chris Cornell served as the face of the 2006 John Varvatos ad campaign and became a restaurateur with the opening of Black Calavados (BC) in Paris, where he splits his time.

AUDIOSLAVE will be the featured guests on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" airing Monday, August 28. The live show begins at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET, and fans are encouraged to call in with questions during the program at (800) 344-ROCK (7625). To find a station near you, check out www.rocklineradio.com.

AUDIOSLAVE will release its third album, "Revelations", on September 5, but don't expect to see the band on the road until 2007. Frontman Chris Cornell told Launch that unlike the group's previous releases, this time AUDIOSLAVE plans to let fans spend some time with the album before it goes on tour. "Let the album come out for awhile," he said. "You know, the first two records we were out, actually, before they came out. We've done three records in four and a half years and toured a lot. This'll be one to just kind of let it go for a minute."

"Revelations" is preceded by the first single, "Original Fire". The album's title track is also being used in the Madden NFL 2007 video game.

This fall Cornell plans to finish recording his second solo album, which he expects to release in 2007, following up 1999's "Euphoria Morning". Cornell has also recorded "You Know My Name" for the upcoming James Bond movie "Casino Royale", as well as a song for the independent film "Bug".
